Three additional factions have emerged to strengthen Earth's resistance – the Reapers, Skirmishers and Templars – each with its own unique abilities and contrasting philosophies. This expansion includes new Hero classes to counter the “Chosen”, new enemies, missions, environments and increased depth in strategic gameplay. In response, a new enemy, known as the “Chosen,” emerges with one goal: recapture the Commander.

The collection includes several expansion packs and DLCs that add new content to the game, including new factions, enemies, and customization options for your soldiers. It features a variety of enemy types, each with its own strengths and weaknesses, and you must adapt your strategies accordingly. You control a squad of soldiers with different abilities and equipment and must use tactical positioning, cover, and special abilities to defeat the alien enemies. On the tactical layer, you engage in turn-based battles against the alien forces. You must also respond to different events that occur during the game, such as alien attacks on the resistance or requests for assistance from other resistance groups.
You must balance your resources between different priorities such as researching new technologies, building facilities to support the resistance, and gathering intelligence about the alien forces. On the strategic layer, you’ll manage resources, recruits soldiers, and make decisions that affect the overall progress of the resistance. XCOM 2 Collection is split into two main components: the strategic layer and the tactical layer.
